Initiatives:

Nonfiction Literature – Two initiatives, one for teachers in grades K-5 and one for teachers in grades 6-12, on the topic of nonfiction literature are underway.  Dr. Jan Kristo, from The University of Maine, is working with teachers to heighten their understanding of how nonfiction literature works and how to use this genre in the classroom.

Literacy Learning in the Elementary Classroom – Marcia Boody, The University of Maine Trainer for Maine Literacy Partnerships, is working with teachers in grades 2-3 and teachers in grades 4-6 to implement best literacy practices in the classroom.

Professional Learning Communities – For the past two years, PREP has focused on providing workshops to help schools implement Professional Learning Communities.  Advance training is being provided for teachers and principals who have started this process and initial training for a new group of teachers and administrators is being offered this year.

RtI – To help schools implement Response to Intervention, PREP has offered a series of discussion and work sessions to develop an assessment protocol for literacy and behavior and to develop a RtI Leadership team.  This work is being continued and has been expanded to include math.
