Science Collaborative:

The work of the 9th grade science collaborative is to put our practices before colleagues for vetting and improvement. The process helps us to become articulate about what we are currently teaching, how developmentally appropriate the content is for 9th graders’ minds, and about how effective our methods are. We use the guidance available in national standards documents and the new Maine Learning Results. The idea guiding content has been physical sciences applied in the context of understanding Earth systems. We identify resources and people who can help us. It is a goal, through a collaborative process of development, trial, and peer evaluation, to craft learning experiences for 9th graders that work.  The collaborative began in the Fall of 2008.

Teachers who have been involved are
Pat Buchanan (Hermon)
Marc O’Clair, Danielle Johnson,Brad Veitch (Hampden)
 Mike Morton, (Brewer)
 Beth Paradis (Nokomis)
Ben Ewing (Bucksport)
Jeff Owen, (Orono)
Ed Lindsey (Old Town)

9th grade science teachers within a drive of this region are invited to participate.
